Essential Skills:
•Sound analytical and debugging skills
•1+ years of Core Java and J2EE development/support experience preferably in WebSphere 5.1/6/6.1 environment
•RAD, WSAD
•Exposure to Spring, Hibernate, JDBC, SQL, XML
•Experience of using source code management tools, e.g. Clearcase
•Appreciate the business principles involved in a project
•Experience of working with structured support processes and procedures
•Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•Ability to think laterally, an enquiring mind with good analytical and problem-solving capabilities
•Display a flexible attitude; be able to thrive in an ever-changing environment.

Desirable Skills include:

•Experience of application servers, particularly WebSphere 6/6.1
•Good knowledge of UNIX, Shell Scripting, Ant, Cruise Control (or similar) and experience of continuous integration
•Exposure with Web Services standards
•J2EE Design Patterns and JMS/WebSphere MQ experience.
•Oracle DB development

Business Domain related
•Exposure to the Finance industry would be an advantage.
•Strong interest and willingness to understand the Mutual Funds Business.

Job Description

Job Overview
This role is for an experienced Programmer to work within the Services Support and Development team. The successful candidate will be expected to work on development projects to enhance existing, and develop new, integration and business services, centred on J2EE in a WebSphere environment. As required, the candidate will also be required to provide support of Services - this places the candidate in a front line position with considerable business user interaction. As such, the role requires a high level of flexibility and the ability to work under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential to communicate effectively and appropriately to both business users and systems colleagues at all levels.

The role requires close working with colleagues in the UK offices, and as such the candidate may be required to work UK business hours. On occasion the candidate may also be required to provide on-call support outside the normal business hours, and to undertake additional out of hours work to cover changes and release implementations, for example. This demanding role would perfectly suit a dynamic individual looking to work in a fast paced environment to ensure the smooth running of business critical systems.
